Doors bind, sag, stick or fail to latch for a few common reasons. Describing the door and the symptom helps a provider bring the right tools and decide whether the fix is an adjustment or a replacement.
Name the door and its problem
Say whether it is an interior or exterior door, and whether it rubs, swings open, sticks, or does not latch. Note if it is hollow, solid, metal or glass, since that changes the fix.
Describe the hardware
Mention the hinges, knob, closer or lock involved. If a lock or smart lock is part of the job, include the brand and model. Broken or stripped screw holes are a common separate repair.
Plan for weather and safety
An exterior door that does not seal or lock is a priority. Tell the provider about drafts, gaps, or a door that will not stay closed, and confirm whether the frame, threshold or weather stripping is part of the request.
