Drywall repairs look different depending on whether you are patching a small anchor hole, a doorknob dent or a larger water-damaged section. Size and finish determine the work.
Measure and describe the damage
Give the approximate size and location of each damaged area. Distinguish small holes and cracks from larger openings, and mention whether the damage reaches a corner, seam or ceiling.
State the intended finish
Tell the provider whether the wall is painted, textured or will be repainted after. Matching an existing texture takes more steps than a flat patch. If the repair must blend invisibly, say so.
Check for a cause first
A crack or stain can return if the underlying cause is not addressed. Mention any water source, settling or past repair in the same spot. If moisture is involved, that may be a job for a specialist, not a surface patch.
