Check doors, windows and weather stripping, test smoke and carbon-monoxide detectors, and look for water staining under sinks and on ceilings. Clear gutters and drains and inspect exterior caulk and trim.
Bundle the small fixes
Group the loose hinges, sticking doors, nail pops and worn hardware into one request. A single focused visit is more efficient than a new visit for each small item.
Separate the specialist items
Roof, major electrical, gas, HVAC and pest issues do not belong on a general handyman list. Route those to the right professional and use a handyman for the safe, contained fixes.
