Electricity is generally licensed work
Installing a new circuit, moving an outlet, working in a panel or running new wiring generally requires a licensed electrician. A handyman may be able to swap a like-for-like fixture or faceplate, but anything beyond a direct swap should be confirmed.
Plumbing has similar limits
Changing a faucet or a showerhead is often fine. Adding, moving or extending water lines, gas lines or drains is licensed plumbing work. When water or gas is involved, confirm the scope before booking.
Structural and permit work
Removing or altering walls, beams, stairs and some exterior work can require permits and licensed contractors. If a job changes the structure or the building envelope, verify the requirements before anyone starts.
